Worried about posing?

Don't worry, this quick blog has got you covered!

Posing during your first or your 100th photography session can be awkward and scary, but let's start by saying that I, as your photographer, will ensure that you are posed correctly and look beautiful in all of your photos. It is my responsibility to make sure that you are comfortable and get the best-looking photos that you can. Here are a few tips for the day of to keep in mind to make sure you get the best out of your photos and feel comfortable!

  1. Don’t stress! It's my job to pose you effectively! Don't worry about having to know poses or where to put your arms to make the photos look good. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the photoshoot.
  2. Look Around. If you are ever unsure during the session, feel free to look around. Keep your face relaxed or with a soft smile, and look at things in your surroundings. Look down at the ground. Look at the camera. Don't feel like you have to act like a statue or stare at the camera. This is often how photographers get those amazing “candid” shots!
  3. Stay There. Whether you are with a partner or by yourself, stay in the pose that I direct you to do. Staying in these poses or a relatively similar pose will help make you feel less awkward by not breaking “character.” Staying in these poses will help you and prevent those weird moments where you're just standing there waiting for what's going to happen next. This is especially great for couples if you are doing a session to stay in the pose where you're holding on to your partner, as this will help get great moments in between.
  4. Ask questions! Certain part of your body feels awkward or out of place, feel free to ask or point it out to me. My main priority is that you're comfortable and your photos turn out the way that you hope. If you don't think the way you're posing fits your body right or that you are uncomfortable in general, please ask! I am always open to suggestions and questions!
  5. What’s your “good side”? If you have a preferred side of your face, please tell me! Again, I want to make sure your photos are flawless. During posing and throughout the session, throw in little reminders of which side you like best!
  6. Make a mood board/pose list. If you think that you're awkward in front of the camera but you know that you have specific inspiration for your session feel free to make some sort of collage or just a bunch of screenshots with poses that you know you want in specific and send them to me I'm more than happy to make sure that we go down that list and get all of the poses that you were hoping to get whenever you booked your session.
